Maison Couturier
Maison Couturier is a nineteenth-century finca in the Veracruz tropics, built by the French immigrants who settled the town of San Rafael in 1833, whose descendants still bake wood-oven bread and make artisanal cheese nearby. The estate, set among banana groves, lemon trees and dense tropical green, is now an eighteen-room agricultural inn under Grupo Habita, antique furniture intact, the pool at the center of the garden. It holds a little-known thread of Mexican history: a French village in the heat of the Gulf coast.
